Week 10 & 11 Bingo

Week 10

Pass horse and buggy. We finally made it to Amish country. There is a large population of Amish in and near the town of Shipshewana, IN. We found a horse and buggy parked at a Target, Then we passed a whole bunch going down the highways. We tried to be rather discrete when taking pictures. But after talking to quite a few Amish people we found that they are very OK with pictures being taken. We also saw a lot of Amish on bicycles, many on E-bikes. 

Blood. We have had several scrapes with a little bit of blood. This week Bliss cut her finger while slicing onions, though there wasn’t as much blood as Robert had when he scraped his leg on the 3rd day of this trip. We’ve decided that it’s too late in this trip, we don’t want any more blood, so we’re crossing this one off the list. We hope this doesn’t jinx us!

Week 11

Take shelter in an unexpected place: Last Sunday as we were getting ready to leave the Mennonite farm campground it started to pour. There was a workshop/garage with the door open, so we took the bikes in there. The weather app said that the rain would pass in 15 minutes, so we sat on the concrete and waited. Sure enough, after about 15 minutes the rain stopped. We only wish they could predict the wind as accurately. 

Collect 3 license plates for free:  In Michigan, John in Traverse City had a bunch of extra license plates that he uses for painting edges and such. He gave us one for our first plate. 

In Indiana we passed by a farm house that had all kinds of stuff all over the yard. It looked like the stuff was for sale, so Bliss stopped to see if there was an Indiana license plate. Vicky led her through a maze of piled up stuff to her barn. She had at least 50 license plates. We looked through them trying to find one from 1986, but no luck. We found one from 62, Robert’s birth year, so we took that one. Vicky gave it to us for free as an anniversary gift. Bliss tells our story to everyone we meet. 

Bliss put a message out on the Leetonia facebook page looking for a place to put our tent. We were offered several places to stay, and several people offered to find us license plates. There are blog posts with more information on this, but we now own 4 Ohio license plates.  I guess you can never have too many

Leave something behind: On a related note, on our way to Leetonia Bliss noticed that the Indiana license plate that Robert had been carrying with his gear was missing. Robert forgot to pack it up after our rest day near Cleveland. Luckily, Mark and Bobbi found it and are going to send it to Utah for us.
